Keloid and Hypertrophic Scars
Keloid and Hypertrophic Scars
These scars are the result of exuberant scar formation by the body in response to trauma, inflammation, surgery and burns in predisposed individual. While hypertrophic scar is confined to the original wound and tend to improve cosmetically with time, keloid tends to be the opposite.
Keloid may also cause irritation, pain and joint stiffness. Both scars can be effectively treated with topical method or light-based therapy. A gentleman once developed nasty keloid on one side of his ear a few weeks after removing the earing. It grew rapidly within 9 months that eventually disfigured the shape of his ear and impaired his hearing. CO2 laser was used in several sessions to retore to its origical shape.
